BIG PODIUM NEWS
(28-Jun-09)
AAron Fillion put RWR on the map and stole the show at the Elite National Road Race Championships....More news to follow but Aaron was in the break ALL day and took the ELITE TITLE.
RWR- Ottawa's Team
(22-Jun-09)
Team Work pays off. In some textbook tactics, Derrick St.John took the win in the Italian Festival Criterium. On a tight course, the RWR team pushed the pace early to weed out the field, then got down to some text book tactics. Attack, and attack again was the name of the game that put Derrick St. John up the road late in the race. From there St. John put on an impressive solo ride to hold off the chasing field by 15 sec. Aaron Fillion placed 5th when the pack finally rounded the corner.
In the Master's 2/3 field, Rob Orange sprinted to 2nd place in a wet and wild race that saw many riders crashing due to the slippery roads. Rob stayed up (well actually got up) and finished strong in the break away group. Francis Belanger finished 7th.
Earlier in the Week, similar tactics where used to similar success when St.John took the win at the Bill Paterson Memorial criterium. In another display of team work and tactics, RWR sweep the podium with Aaron Fillion and Glen Rendall rounding out the podium.
Next stop for the team is the Elite Road Nationals in Beauce....Stay tuned.
RWR Success
(15-Jun-09)
Jon Gee won the 35+ age group at the Wilmington/Lake Placid road race. Jon was in a small breakaway going into the final White Face climb. The break stayed away and Jon sprinted it out (after the long climb!) to take the win.
-Audrey Bernard won the Criterium Marmen- de Trois-Rivieres According to reports; Audrey had a very good race and was the one attacking from the get go. She pushed hard in the first lap so that only three girls followed her. Halfway into the race she attacked again and dropped one of the riders. Going into the final turn, Audrey attacked one and no-one managed to catch her up. Trois-Rivières being her old home town, maybe she wanted to impress her friends. If so, she impressed more than them.
