The 2011 cycling season is underway, and Ride With Rendall (RWR) has got off to a good start, with two wins in the first two races, and numerous impressive rides that shows everyone is going to have a great season.

The Ottawa Bicycle Club (OBC) time trial series kicks off with the Good Friday opener this week. There are a few changes in the registration for this series due to the new insurance requirements from the Ontario Cycling Association (OCA). In order to participate in the OBC time trial series you will need to show your racing license, or proof of membership into an Ontario registered club. The proof of membership is either a membership card that RWR can provide to those that need them, and/or a e-mail from the club president/registrar (Glen Rendall or Jason Cheney) . If you require an e-mail proof of membership e-mail sent to you, please let me know, and I will get that to you ASAP.

On another note, the 2011 RWR clothing has arrived. If you have ordered clothing please co-ordinate with Glen Rendall for pick-up. If you did not order clothing, you can still pick-up those items that you want. Leg Warmers, Arm Warmers, and a Fleece Lined Long Sleeve Jersey are some of the nice new items for this year. And of course we still have all the other items (Jerseys, bib shorts, jackets, skin suits, vests) with minor changes.

You may have noticed that the club web-site has undergone some changes, and has a nice fresh new look. If you have anything that you would like to add to the site in terms of content, please feel free to submit it to either Glen or myself.

In addition to Derrick and Natasha, RWR junior rider Yohan Patry will soon be joining them in Europe to compete at the Cyclocross World Championships. Yohan will riding similarly equipped bikes.

It was a final push to get some equipment and clothing to our new riders, but in the end it was worth it. Both Yohan and William pulled on the RWR jersey for the first time and both rode to wins in their first races with the team.

In addition to the racing, the third annual RWR Cyclocross clinic was held this past weekend and thanks to the weather, riders in attendance were able to put in 10hrs honing their skills. Glen Rendall and Jason Cheney led those attending through various drills that were all designed to develop skills for the upcoming races.

RWR Cross Team – The Riders

Kiernan Orange – This season will see Kiernan move up to the Espoir ranks after a very successful 2009-2010 cyclocross season in which he represented Canada at the Cyclocross World Championships in Tobar, CZ. Kiernan is a true “product” of the RWR cycling program as he has moved up through the cycling program and developed into the rider he is today.

Greg Reain – Greg is one of a select few that have won the Elite Cyclocross National championships, represented Canada at the World level, and raced as a professional in Europe. Greg’s passion for the sport has been rekindled with the opportunity to mentor up-and-coming riders within the RWR club.

Glen Rendall – Glen brings a wealth of knowledge to the team and the RWR cycling clinics and program. He is a level-3 coach and has represented Canada at the world level in track.

William Goodfellow – William will be coming off a very successful road season highlighted by his recent second place position at the Montreal-Quebec Road Race. Relatively new to cyclocross, William’s fitness and exposure to the NRC road races in the US will transfer nicely to cross.

Yohan Patry – Yohan has been tearing up the cyclocross scene these past few years so it is hard to always remember that he is still a junior. Yohan is joining us after a successful road session with VC Montreal-Cycle Regis. Having won a number of provincial and regional races last year, look for Yohan’s name when Nationals roll around.

In addition to the riders listed above, RWR elite/espoir Road team riders will join the cross team at various provincial and National events. When you combine this with the strong Master and Women riders already representing RWR in the region and beyond, expect to see RWR on numerous podiums this cross season!
